Widowed wives of Krishna - Story
Mayladdurai 1870
"Aiyo, what I will do, nothing would happen to me right now, my only son has now died." A crying sound weeps across the halls of the Antipathical house with the wet tears of a mom who lost her son.
"Aiyo, I named my son Vembu, as Vembu would make a bitter taste for Yama. Now he also took no cause." Their tears for their son, aged 44, died because of cholera, which started its uprising in this area.
Vembu Iyer, a qualified accountant in the tax revenue department, British Karikal department. Indians are not so good for this role. Only people who have gained the trust of the British with a prolonged period of education can be seated in the position.
"Dai, why are you making your mom cry over you?" You said I would not make you cry for no reason. Now you made me cry in the scene where my tears stopped. "
In this scene where Ganapathikal does not have words to represent the loss of his only son,
Brahmin scholar Neelakandan Ganapathikal was a well-known scholar of Brahmin rituals and Vedas. In this village, they are the wealthiest family. It is said that they would drink and eat in silver cups and plates and would only use silver and gold for all festivals and normal use.
"My son, you said I'd give you my son to look after you if I go away."But now your bloody wife didn’t produce the embryo itself... "
Vembu married Sharmila. A small girl, age 22. When she was married to Vembu, she hadn't even had her first period. She was so innocent and pure-hearted that she never opposed her husband.
I know when my son married this demon, I said at least a Vathima would have been better compared to this Bragacharanam.
Sharmila, the fourth daughter of Thiagarajan Sarsigal and Anamika, was not fed well due to the fact that she was not fit enough to even carry a baby in her womb. Now what she can do is cry and weep in the pillars' corner and have a guilty feeling that she was the only reason that made the Neelakandan family end.
When her father came to Diwali, he came with empty hands, and when you were gone for Pongal, you gave the golden necklace to his elder brother Narayanan.
Narayanan is the eldest and the first son of the Thiagarajan sastrigal. Thyagaraja Sarpigal was a poor Brahmin who made offerings to God and worked at the mutt of Shankar. He really did not get enough money to even arrange marriages for all five of her girls, but Sharmila and Urmila were lucky and got into wealthy families where they would live better, as per Thyagaraja's assumption.
"I knew when our astrologer told us she had Mercury in Capricorn it would bring huge devastation to the family and she would not be married."
When she came here, she was so lean and slim as a stick at only 16 years old. And the next year, she had her periods and was conceived in the next month of August. Ganapathikal had to leave town at that time for Rudra Homa in Udayulur and Vembu to report to Karikal for his submission of records for that year. Vembu's mother, Vadhambal, left for her sister's house in a hurry and came back when she felt the flight of steps, and her pregnancy was aborted with a huge loss of blood from the uterus because of the trauma of it.
"My husband, would you not ask her when she asked for the girl in her place whether she would conceive a baby or not?" All our great fathers would shame us as we are not fit enough. We didn't even think negatively of anyone, but now parents will criminate their son. "
Ganapathikal, 76, wept and screamed in agony at this unfortunate moment, and Thiagarajan arrived at this unfortunate moment.
"Aiyo Mappila, your father-in-law came. Please stand up. Forty times a breath, you would call my father with love now. Who would call me like that? Narayana sees your sister’s husband sleeping here. " 'Said the father-in-law.
Narayanan has not been here since this drama started. He had gone to London for his studies and came here to witness his brother-in-law's death. Narayanan did not even get the tears of a sad mother crying, the pain of his father for this person, or a screaming misfortune father's agony over the body. For him, it is all the cycle of birth and death.
"Come you beggars who brought a wealthy family with a marriage scandal and are now screaming for your son!"After wiping off everything, she stood up towards the body of her son and did not care if he was dead or alive and started to shout.
"Samadhi, don’t shout when a body is lying in our house. It's full of misfortune for our family only." Weeping tears cannot be wiped away by touching the body’s leg. He was crying.
"Who will get misfortune this minute? You have come to misfortune. When you gave your daughter, misfortune began in full force. You said she would be Lakshmi, but she is Alakshmi(opposite of Lakshmi's properosus or sign of misfortune) in all ways. " Vadhambal started shouting and attracted all the people from nearby houses to the place.
Narayanan then sat with his sister and asked, "What really happened?"
"Anna, my husband was like Ram, who did nothing wrong. A few weeks back, he went to meet an English doctor for paternal care in Thanjavur. That time, he drank water from unsanitized water well at the office of the British. Since then, he has felt sick. The last time we called the doctor and he told us nothing could be done. She said these things with her eyes full of tears.
"You said our house, ah? "Whose house are you speaking with your buglers, take everything from us and make us walk in the street like you?"She started to cross the boundary of the relationship and treated him like an equal in her house.
Narayanan came to know she was not well fed and said why did a slim person need to eat? She was not provided with nutritional food even during pregnancy before it was aborted by trauma by her mother-in-law. They treated her as if she was a slave as she would run to her home so she could make another marriage. Now her shouting and these things made Narayana steadfast and fight, but he could not argue as if he could not lose the battle between the elders.
"Samandhi, please forgive me for what my daughter has done and say what is to be done as a punishment." said poor Thiagarajan, with no arrows in the quiver.
Make your daughter perform sati and make my son at least reach the yamaloga with a golden-plated chariot. " Said Vadhambal
Ganapathikal did not notice these, and he went to dress change and came back with one cloth with a brass anise and started chanting mantra for the lord Varun to come to this anise to make this home holy and clean and make the corpus also clean before ashing.
"Samandhi, this is not only my daughter but also your daughter when I performed Kannika dhanam, don't be deceived by agitation and think for the sake of your family."You can also adopt one. " Said Thiagarajan with his hand folded as if he would fall on her leg.
His anger at seeing Ganapathikal not acting in this, Vadhambal using her power for dominance, the poor sister, who would be defunct if they performed sati, and his father, who may fall on the feet of Vadhamabal, made him so angry, but he needs to remain calm.
Ganapathikal’s aid brought the palm leaf palankeen which would carry the body and made a tied rope of jute to symbolise the rope of Lord Yama. He also poured an inch of water from his head to his toes and asked his wife to wash him. After this, they made a few people wear their sacred thread left to right to wear as a garland, and Vadhamabal cried as if her voice was gone. Ganapathikal cannot cry now with this, as if he cries, the chant of his mantra will be decided, which would affect his name and his son’s way to Yamalaoga.
She ordered her brother to take Sharmila to the cremation yard to perform sari and her father with him. Both came to the graveyard. When they came, it was the rule that only men were allowed in this cremation yard. Sharmila saw many women in white sarees with bald heads. But Vadhambal’s brother said, "You should jump into the fire when it's lit." and Sharmila did not know what was happening.
When they came, Ganapathikal performed the last rites by performing a small home on his chest and then making the fire lit by him from the Agni he took from the Agnihotri pot of his family. Then he stared there and came to know that this was happening and Vadhambal's brother was pushing her to fire.
She resisted as much as she could. She shouted the names of gods, but the gods became deaf here. The people who saw became blind when they saw, but their brother, who should have shouted at this, opened his mouth and said to stop. He took his sister from him and said, "This marriage was over when your sister shouted at my father."
"This marriage was over when you were saying terrible things about the women of the married person when he was dead. You will never understand anything when it comes to this. " He shouted Narayanan with red eyes, staring at the brother with his index finger pointing at him.
"You bloody one, you have not even married and collaborated with an English person in London and have lost your brahmin hood. Do not ever get into these things. Not even present in the marriage when it was happening, suddenly from nowhere you would take Rukumani as if Krishna. " So said the brother of Vadhambal.
"You idiot Krishna, you took for a noble cause, and I do as well."The Brahmin hood does not exist in the sacred thread or culture. It's the way you meet a person and treat him/her. Not this rowdy thing. " His father was hanging on to his brother's foot as he was pushing his daughter and was trying to stop it. Narayanan stopped while he was near the fire. Ganpathikal was still in his ritual and just noticed this and stood up and came here.
"From now on, at least wake-up and see," Narayanan said as he threw the weeding rope at the flames of the burning corpse. You have been a good wife, but not a good householder for these thugs. Leave to come to our home; I will take care of you as our father did and will be happy with the son who you will adopt and make him honourable as your husband was." Narayanan made his father stand up and made his sister sit on his hip and started walking. When Vadhambal's brother saw this, he started chasing, but his hands were caught by Ganapathikal who said not to do this with his eyes. But he resisted and chased after them, but eventually all the widows came to him and stopped. Sharmilla did not understand what had just taken place. Her father instructed his son to bring deep shame to his family, but only deep down Narayanan knew that he did the right thing, and if he didn’t, he would be the monkey that would have closed his mouth.
Then he came to the Vembu house to meet the parents on the 10th day and said, "When Krishna died, and all her wives would have become widowed, the Mahabharata war didn’t need to happen because many would have died compared to that."
Samandhi-It's a Tamizh term for referring to the relationship between the groom's parents and the bride's parents
Bragacharanam./Vathima - Bhramins also had a sub-caste based on their job on the land. People who performed rituals to god in the temple are said to be the least called Kurkukal, followed by Bragacharanam, who are people who used to perform rituals for all the family, while the Vadama and Vathima are said to be the royal priests.
