பாவபூமி (Sinned Earth) - Poem

 

பாவம் பத்த பூமி, கண்கள் இரண்டியும் தண்டு,

 காணவேய்கும் யாம் பாவி

(paavam patha bhoomi, kangal irandiyum thandu, 

kaanaveigum yam paavi)

காலம் பொய்யே பாவம் சேர்ந்ததே 

நானும் அதில் பாவி ஆகிறேன் 

அம்மா பாவினி, உன்னிடம்  சொல்ல முடியாத பாவி

(kaalam poiye paavam sernthathe 

naanum adhil paavi aagiren 

amma pavini, unnidam solla mudiyaatha paavi)

காதல் காமம், சுவைக்க ஆகாரம்,

குடிக்க சோமபானம் 

ஐயோ இதெல்லாம் வாழ்கியோ 

யாவும் தவிர்த்து.

வாழ்கியே மாயலோகம் 

வாழும் மனித பித்தன் எழுதிய

(kaathal kaamam, suvaikka aagaaram, 

kudikka somabanam 

aiyo idhellaam vaazhkiyo yaavum thavirthu. 

vaazhgiye mayalogam 

vaazhum manitha pithan ezhuthiya)

Meaning

This earth is full of sin, and it gave me two eyes to,

witness these, Oh I have also committed the sin.

when time goes by sin gets piled up

my sins have also been by this world,

O lady who washes the sin (Pavini), 

I'm a sinner who can't even say to you

Lust, Gluttony

and addiction

alas are these what life is given for

to stop these and 

to know this is an illusion

the madman who lived as a human wrote this.

Poet's Note

As a human being, I see a lot of injustice and things which these small children should not see is been displayed to them. As adults, we failed to protect them from this and instead became addicted to it. An incident where a 6-year daughter sees her father drinking in the morning 10 made me angry. In that line, this whole poem flowed to its position. It can be sung in three ragas as I didn't keep a limit to it. Ganamurthe, Bhairavi and Aahir will suffice the emotion to it. Soon see you in another poem with another raga or ragas.
